The section below will guide you through the basic
navigational skills of
the Aspen Graphics program.

MENUS, WINDOWS and PAGES
Clear the screen by typing .clear and then press .
Tap the key (upper left corner of the keyboard) to bring up a Main Menu.
Retrieve Page brings up the List of Pages. Pages are screen layouts which, once selected, clear your screen and then display one or more windows of information. The List of Pages displays all your pages in alphabetical order.
Add Window brings up the Window Selection Menu. Windows are boxes of information which will, once selected, overlay any information that is already on your screen. All your windows can be found here, grouped together by category.
CHARTS
Bring up a chart by selecting Add Window. Under the heading of CHARTS in the upper left-hand corner, select Default. Then select Done to clear the Window Selection Menu.
You'll now have a blank chart on the top half of your screen. Type the name of the instrument you want to display, such as ngh8 for the March 1998 Natural Gas futures contract, and tap . Price data will now be displayed in the form of a 15-minute bar chart.
Once you have a bar chart on your screen, you may want to:
- Select a study from the Overlays list and it will be displayed over the bar chart.
- Select a study from the Studies and it will replace your bar chart with the study.
Example: switch from a 15 minute bar chart to an hourly chart by typing 60 .
Remember that a Page will first clear the screen when
you retrieve it;
a Window will overlay what is already on the screen.
QUOTE PAGES
Type .pages anywhere in the program to bring up a List of Pages.
Aspen Graphics starts you off with some preformatted quote pages. You'll recognize these in the List of Pages because they start with a Q_ or qt_ .
As an example, select qt_40v.
(If necessary, adjust the character size by bringing up a menu, selecting Window/Misc. and then Character Size.)
Clear the data on the page by typing two commas ( , , ) and tapping .
Begin entering symbols on the page by clicking the left mouse button under the word Symbol in the upper left corner of the page. You'll notice a little black box will open up with a cursor in it. Just type in the name of the symbol on which you want a quote, and tap . Information on your symbol will appear to the right. Continue entering symbols, and after your last entry tap the key to close the entry box.
When you get a chance, browse through our various preformatted quote pages to see which ones have the most convenient layout for your style of trading. Later, you can modify an existing quote page or build your own from scratch; see the Quotes chapter of the Aspen Graphics User's Guide for more information.
FUNCTION KEYS
You can save windows, pages, commands or strings of commands to the Function Keys.
Type .keys and tap to see the Main Function Key assignments.
Select the Function Key you want to use by highlighting that key with the mouse, and clicking the left mouse button. An entry box will open up.
To assign a window or a page to this Function Key, type the name of the window or page exactly as you've saved it in this entry box, and tap . Then select Done at the bottom of the Main Function Keys menu.
You can reassign any of the Function Keys, /Function Key, /Function Key or /Function Key combinations listed on your Main Function Keys menu.
Do not reprogram the letter key combinations, such as D, which deletes a window from the screen.
